Ugadi
Ugadi is an important festival celebrated by Hindus, particularly those living in the Deccan region. The word “Ugadi” or “Yugadi” is derived from the Sanskrit words yuga (age) and adi (beginning), which translates to “The beginning of a new age”. Ugadi marks the beginning of a new era and the arrival of the spring season.
The festival has a long history and has been an important and historic festival for the Hindus, with medieval texts and inscriptions recording major charitable donations to Hindu temples and community centers on this day. Devotees worship Lord Vishnu, who is the creator of Yuga or ages.
The significance of Ugadi is extremely crucial to the people living in the Deccan Region in South India. It is a time to reflect on the past year and make resolutions for the upcoming year. People clean their homes, wear new clothes, decorate their houses with mango leaves, and prepare a special dish called “Ugadi pachadi” which is made from six different tastes symbolizing the different emotions of life.

Sri Rama Navami
Sri Rama Navami is a Hindu festival celebrated to commemorate the birth of Lord Rama, the seventh avatar of Lord Vishnu, to King Dasharatha and Queen Kausalya in Ayodhya, Kosala. The festival falls on Navami Tithi (ninth day) of Shukla Paksha (the waxing phase of the moon) in the Hindu month of Chaitra, which usually falls in March or April in the Gregorian calendar. Sri Rama Navami is celebrated in different parts of India with great enthusiasm and devotion.
In Ayodhya, which is believed to be the birthplace of Lord Rama, the festival is celebrated with grandeur and fervor. Devotees take a dip in the Sarayu River andvisit the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple, where Lord Rama is believed to have been born. Bhadrachalam, a temple town in Telangana, is another important center of Sri Rama Navami celebrations, where devotees flock to the temple of Lord Rama to offer prayers and participate in the various rituals.
Rameshwaram in Tamil Nadu is also an important center of Sri Rama Navami celebrations, where devotees take a holy dip in the sea and visit the Ramanathaswamy Temple to offer prayers to Lord Rama. In Sitamarhi, Bihar, where Sita (Lord Rama’s wife) is believed to have been born, the festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm, and devotees visit the Sitamarhi Temple to offer prayers.
Devotees also fast, recite hymns and prayers, and participate in various cultural and religious programs on this day. Some devotees also organize processions, where the idol of Lord Rama is taken out on a decorated chariot or palanquin, and devotees sing hymns and chant “Sita-Ram” as a mark of their devotion.
